Karen L. Halby is Senior Vice President, Head of Global Tax Office of Sony Corporation of America. She has been with Sony since January 2000. In her role, Ms. Halby is responsible for worldwide taxes for Sony, overseeing all tax matters for the company and its various divisions. The Sony global tax organization has 85 professionals worldwide with offices in New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Singapore and London.
Prior to joining Sony, Ms. Halby worked at Coty, Inc. (1996 - 2000) where she served as Vice President, Tax and handled worldwide tax matters for the cosmetic and fragrance manufacture and distributor. She also worked at PepsiCo, Inc. (1991 – 1996), where she was Vice President and Tax Counsel, and was responsible primarily for domestic tax functions, including transfer pricing, for the company. Ms. Halby started her career as a Tax Associate first at Sullivan & Cromwell (1983 – 1987) and then at Latham & Watkins (1987 – 1991).
Ms. Halby received an A.B. degree cum laude in mathematics from University of Michigan and a J.D. degree magna cum laude from Cornell University Law School, where she was editor of the Cornell Law Review.
