Delawareans.
- In fact, the relative portion of
jobs in the state supplied by U.S. subsidiaries remains
significant. They provide the livelihood for 7.2%
of Delaware's private-sector workforce.
- Delaware ranks 1st in the country
in the share of its workforce supported by U.S. subsidiaries.

- U.S. subsidiaries support 7,100
manufacturing jobs in Delaware. Manufacturing companies
tend to have a strong "multiplier" effect on the economy—stimulating
a substantial amount of activity and jobs in other
sectors through their demand for inputs from other
suppliers.
- More than 21% of manufacturing jobs in Delaware
are supported by U.S. subsidiaries.
- U.S. subsidiaries’ employment in
Delaware is heavily concentrated in manufacturing.
Over 25% of these jobs are in manufacturing industries.

of American jobs. They now employ 5.1 million Americans-or
4.4% of private sector employment.
- U.S. subsidiaries support an annual payroll of $335.9

- U.S. subsidiaries provide an average compensation
per U.S. worker of $66,042; this is 32% higher than
compensation at all U.S. companies.
- U.S. subsidiaries also spent $121 billion on plant
construction and new equipment.
- U.S. subsidiaries' share of U.S. manufacturing employment
represents almost 11% of American manufacturing jobs.
In January 2007, Air Liquide,
a U.S. subsidiary of a French-based international group
specializing in industrial and medical gases and related
services opened a new R&D and Technology Center
in Newark, Delaware. Air Liquide invested $35 million
for the 22-hectare site. Air Liquide executives cited
the U.S.'s dynamic market and top university and scientific
talent available as some of the main rationale for the
investment. The new facility, called the "Delaware
Research and Technology Center" (DRTC), created
150 new jobs. The DRTC will devote itself to twelve
areas of research from gas production to applications
in electronics, healthcare and food processing, and
in particular clean energy.
