a vital role in supporting jobs. They now employ 139,900
Indianans.
- Indiana has proven to be an attractive
location for international employers, ranking 13th
in the United States in the number of employees supported
by U.S. subsidiaries.
- In fact, the relative portion of
jobs in the state supplied by U.S. subsidiaries remains
significant. They provide the livelihood for 5.4%
of Indiana's private-sector workforce.
- Indiana ranks 10th in the country in the share of
its workforce supported by U.S. subsidiaries.

- U.S. subsidiaries support 83,900
manufacturing jobs in Indiana. Manufacturing companies
tend to have a strong "multiplier" effect on the economy—stimulating
a substantial amount of activity and jobs in other
sectors through their demand for inputs from other
suppliers.
- Almost 15% of manufacturing jobs in Indiana are
supported by U.S. subsidiaries.
- U.S. subsidiaries’ employment in
Indiana is heavily concentrated in manufacturing.
Sixty percent of these jobs are in manufacturing industries.

of American jobs. They now employ 5.1 million Americans-or
4.4% of private sector employment.
- U.S. subsidiaries support an annual payroll of $335.9
billion.

per U.S. worker of $66,042; this is 32% higher than
compensation at all U.S. companies.
- U.S. subsidiaries also spent $121 billion on plant
construction and new equipment.
- U.S. subsidiaries' share of U.S. manufacturing employment
represents almost 11% of American manufacturing jobs.
In March 2007,Honda
Manufacturing
of Indiana, a U.S. Subsidiary of a Japanese
automobile manufacturer, held an official groundbreaking
ceremony for its $550 million automobile plant in Greensburg.
The new facility will produce Honda Civic sedans when
mass production begins in fall 2008. The plant expects
to create 2,000 new jobs. The Civic sedans produced
in Indiana will feature fuel-efficient four-cylinder
engines manufactured in Anna, Ohio. The vast majority
of parts for the vehicles made at the Indiana plant
will be manufactured by Honda's existing base of more
than 600 North American suppliers. Honda purchased more
than $17.6 billion in parts and materials from suppliers
in North America in 2006.
