Last year, Nokia, a U.S. subsidiary of a Finnish company, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology announced the opening the Nokia Research Center, a joint project aimed at developing state-of-the-art in communications technologies. Located five minutes from MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, the new research center in Cambridge will have approximately 20 researchers from MIT and 20 researchers from Nokia. Nokia, a global telecommunications company, will invest 23.8 million dollars into the new facility. Overall, the creation of the new research facility is expected to create 100 new jobs in the region.
