Last year, Holcim, a U.S. subsidiary of a Swiss company, broke ground on a billion dollar project that spans 1,700 acres in Sainte Genevieve, Missouri. Holcim is a leading global supplier of cement and crushed stone. When completed, the plant will employ nearly 2,000 new workers. Plans include port facilities along the Mississippi River that are expected to handle 90% of the shipping volume for the company. The project is due to be completed in 2009.
