In February 2007, Naturener North America¸ a U.S. subsidiary of a Spanish renewable energy company, started operating in Montana when its parent company acquired Somers-based Great Plains Wind & Energy. Despite the acquisition, the U.S. management will continue to run the company's Montana projects. Naturener plans to expand existing capacity, beginning with investment in the McCormick Ranch Wind Park located in Toole and Glacier Counties. Naturener is looking to increase the potential output from the wind park from 120 MW of power to 300 MW, thus increasing Montana's commercial wind production by more than 200%. The $500 million wind farm will consist of over 200 turbines located on 20,000 acres leased from local landowners.
