In Wake of Dubai Ports Controversy, Do Foreign Firms Think U.S.
“Welcome Mat" Has Been Pulled Back?

CEO INSOURCING SURVEY SHOWS THAT 88 PERCENT OF CEOs PLAN TO
INCREASE OR MAINTAIN THEIR U.S. INVESTMENT IN THE UNITED STATES

WASHINGTON, D.C.   Today, the Organization for International Investment (OFII) released its 2nd Annual CEO Survey of top-level executives at major U.S. subsidiaries of foreign companies.  The survey gauges how the United States is perceived as a location for business investment vis-à-vis other nations.

Due to a of number highly controversial foreign acquisitions over the last six months (CNOOC/DP World), some have speculated that the existing political atmosphere may scare away major foreign investment. However, according to the results of OFII’s survey, eighty-eight percent of CEOs of U.S. subsidiaries plan to increase or maintain their companies’ investments in the United States over the next year.  Moreover, eighty-four percent of CEOs say their company plans to increase or maintain U.S. employment levels over the next year.

According to the survey, a knowledgeable and skilled workforce ranked as the most important factor influencing a company’s decision about the location of a new investment – with the United States ranking high in this category compared to other countries.

“This survey shows a continued level of confidence in the United States as a location for investment – primarily due to the quality of the American workforce,” said Todd M. Malan, OFII President and CEO.  “However, if Congress over-reacts to concerns about a few particular transactions and raises barriers to international investment across the board, we will see a different outcome,” Malan stated.
