ABB Inc., a U.S. subsidiary of Switzerland-based ABB Ltd., is expanding its electric power transformer manufacturing facility in South Boston, Virginia to meet increasing demand for equipment and technologies to update the country’s power grids. ABB is working with the Halifax County Industrial Development Authority and the State of Virginia for the $16 million expansion that will create some 130 highly skilled jobs in the South Boston community. Completion is scheduled in 2008. Transformers manufactured at this facility will be used by utilities throughout the U.S. and elsewhere to help provide a reliable power supply to other industries to help increase their productivity and energy efficiency.
