Executive Vice President, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary | Zurich North America
Dennis F. Kerrigan Jr. serves as executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary for Zurich North America, with responsibility for the Corporate Law, Compliance, Government & Industry Affairs, and Regulatory Affairs departments supporting Zurich's General Insurance segment in North America, which includes its North America Commercial, Global Corporate and Canadian businesses.
In addition to his current duties as Chief Legal Officer, Dennis also serves as an adviser to the Regional Chairman of North America, wherein he provides strategic advice and counsel to the Chairman and support for implementation of the Group strategy in North America.
Prior to joining the Zurich organization in 2008, Dennis was a partner in the global litigation department of an international law firm.
Dennis is an accomplished litigation and dispute resolution attorney with 20 years of trial experience in state and federal courts, including high-profile cases. He has represented financial services companies in a variety of proceedings, including arbitrations, governmental investigations, regulatory hearings and trials, in matters involving market conduct litigation, class actions, complex claims litigation, reinsurance disputes and coverage litigation. He is a frequent speaker on a variety of topics, including trial advocacy, corporate governance and commercial insurance.
Dennis has a law degree from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William & Mary and a bachelor's degree from the College of the Holy Cross. He has been recognized by several business and legal publications in the area of insurance law and also served as editor-in-chief of the Tort & Insurance Law Journal, published by the American Bar Association.
He has also taken a leadership role in several industry groups, including the American Insurance Association, the Organization for International Investment and the Institute For Legal Reform, as well as several area charitable organizations, including Habitat for Humanity and Chicago Catholic Charities. He is admitted to practice law in Illinois and Connecticut.
