Vice President, Taxes | Anheuser-Busch


Gary Tappana is Vice President – Taxes for Anheuser-Busch, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Anheuser-Busch InBev.  Named in 2014 to lead the company’s United States and Canadian tax functions, Tappana joined Anheuser-Busch in 1987 and has gained broad experience in both the tax and public affairs arenas.  Tappana’s activities have included policy development, grassroots and advocacy at all levels of government.  Among his current responsibilities are leading tax policy development and implementation for the company at the federal and state level.

Anheuser-Busch InBev is the world’s largest brewer by volume and one of the world’s top five consumer products companies by revenue.  ABI has a diversified portfolio of over 500 beer and other malt beverage brands.  These include international brands, such as Budweiser, Stella Artois, Beck’s, Leffe and Hoegaarden; and brands primarily distributed in the United States such as Bud Light and Michelob Ultra.  In the United States, Anheuser-Busch employs over 17,000 people at more than 60 facilities.  In fact, 98% of what Anheuser-Busch sells in the US is manufactured in the US.  The company has invested $3 billion in its US facilities since 2012.

Tappana serves on the Board of Directors, Executive Board and as Treasurer/Secretary of the Organization for International Investment, a Washington-based trade association.  He also serves as a member of the Council on State Taxation, the Manufacturers Alliance for Productivity and Innovation Tax Council, the Associated Industries of Missouri’s Tax Committee and Treasurer of the Anheuser-Busch PAC.

An attorney and CPA, Tappana began his career at the accounting firm Coopers & Lybrand.  He received both his bachelor of science in public administration and his juris doctorate from the University of Missouri – Columbia.  He is also a graduate with an Executive MBA from the Olin School of Business at Washington University in St. Louis.  Married with three adult children and a former youth leader and coach, Tappana is an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.
